Ride Giant Musical Seesaws in the Heart of Herald Square

The seesaw was always the one playground ride my kids never wanted to leave. No matter how many times I said, “One more turn,” they always found a reason to keep going.

Now, that classic childhood favorite has made its way from the neighborhood playground to the heart of Manhattan, only this time, it lights up and makes music, too. Good luck getting them to leave!

Free Giant Musical Seesaws Are Taking Over Herald Square This Summer
Impulse by Lateral Office & CS Design – Charlotte City, USA – 2019

Impulse is transforming Herald Square into a giant interactive playground with eight oversized seesaws that light up and create music as people ride them. The free public art installation isn’t just for kids either; parents and visitors of all ages can ride together while creating their own light-and-sound show.

Created by Montreal-based designers Lateral Office and CS Design and coordinated by Quartier des Spectacles Partnership International, Impulse takes something we all already know how to play and makes it more fun, more social, and more creative.

It’s also completely free and easy to visit. Families can stop by for a quick ride anytime between 9 am and 9 pm.

Impulse will be open daily starting today, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. through August 21. No reservations are required, and rides are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
