Speaking at global reinsurer SCOR’s briefing at RVS 2026 in Monte Carlo, Thierry Léger, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) said that the reinsurer sees third-party capital as an attractive source of capital for the firm, and sees no future changes regarding its strategy for managing it.
French reinsurer SCOR is an active manager of third-party capital through its asset management subsidiary, SCOR Investment Partners, and dedicated risk partnership initiatives.
In light of the company’s consistency in the insurance-linked securities (ILS) market, we asked executives at the firm whether they could share any future plans they have for managing third-party capital.
“We see third-party capital for SCOR as an attractive source of capital, given our brand is very strong. And that we have, in theory, if the price in terms of buyer, an ability to write higher shares that goes beyond the balance sheet size,” said Léger.
“Third-party capital, therefore, is an opportunity for us to use them to write higher shares on certain businesses. So we have a continued strong emphasis in this space,” Léger continued.
“We have been for many years already active in that space, so I would say there’s no change in strategy there, and we will continue to partner with third-party capital providers.”
Providing further insight, Jean-Paul Conoscente, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SCOR Global P&C, highlighted how SCOR has been an active player within the third-party capital space for a number of years.
“SCOR has been using third-party capital, starting with catastrophe bonds, for 25 years, and so our intent is to continue to leverage that,” Conoscente noted.
Back in May, SCOR returned to the catastrophe bond market with an initial target to secure $75 million of fully-collateralized catastrophe retrocession through its Atlas Capital DAC (Series 2026-1) issuance, which went on become the reinsurer’s twenty-first cat bond.
SCOR managed to successfully secured the targeted coverage at attractive pricing, with the notes finalised to pay a spread at the low-end of initial guidance.
