Family swim and climb events are available for faculty, staff and students with children.
“The intent of the family swims and climbs is to provide a fun and relaxing social event for ISU employees and their family members,” Kerri Calvert, a health promotion coordinator, said.
Calvert noted that the events aim to provide children and families with a safe environment to blow off steam on weekends.
“The swimming pools are all closed in September, so this provides an opportunity to swim when local options are unavailable,” Calvert said.
Health Promotion and Wellness partners with campus and community organizations to implement effective educational and environmental strategies that encourage behavior change.
“I have worked here since 2000, and the family swims were taking place at that time. I do not know exactly when they started, only that they have a long history at ISU,” Calvert said.
The events are scheduled not to interfere with students’ access to the facilities. ool will reopen at noon on Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays following the program; however, the rock–climbing wall is not available to students on Sundays. Participants in these programs will be limited to the pool and climbing wall during program hours.
