Vanessa Hudgens looked virtually unchanged from her High School Musical days as she made a glamorous return to the red carpet in Hollywood.
The 37-year-old actress stepped out for the opening night of the 2026 HollyShorts Film Festival at the TCL Chinese Theatre over the weekend, marking one of her most high-profile appearances since welcoming her second child with husband Cole Tucker late last year.
Vanessa looked radiant for the occasion in a slinky cream satin maxi dress featuring contrasting black straps and delicate lace detailing across the bust.
The elegant floor-length design skimmed her figure before falling into a fluid skirt, while Vanessa kept her accessories understated with a sparkling silver mini bag and delicate jewelry.
Her signature dark hair was worn loose and glossy around her shoulders, while smoky eye makeup, glowing skin and a nude lip completed the effortlessly glamorous look.
The appearance was bound to spark nostalgia among longtime fans who first fell in love with Vanessa when she played Gabriella Montez opposite Zac Efron’s Troy Bolton in High School Musical 20 years ago.
Vanessa Hudgens returns to the red carpet
Vanessa wasn’t simply attending the festival as a guest. The actress was honored with the Luminary Award in recognition of her career and support of independent filmmaking, while also attending in connection with her latest film, America.
“It’s a real honor to receive the Luminary Award from HollyShorts,” Vanessa said ahead of the event.
“I’ve always believed in supporting filmmakers and championing original storytelling, and it’s exciting to celebrate the incredible creativity and passion that short films bring to our industry.”
The evening also brought about a sweet reunion with her Tick, Tick… Boom! co-star Alexandra Shipp, who received the festival’s Trailblazer Award after making her writing and directing debut with short film For Niko.
The pair starred together in the acclaimed 2021 musical drama alongside Andrew Garfield.
Vanessa Hudgens’ life away from the spotlight
The outing comes after Vanessa has spent much of the past few years embracing family life with former professional baseball player Cole Tucker.
The couple welcomed their first child, a son, in July 2024 before expanding their family again in late 2025 with the arrival of a daughter. They have chosen to keep both children’s names and faces largely out of the public eye.
Vanessa and Cole first sparked romance rumors in 2020 and became engaged in 2023, before tying the knot later that year in a romantic ceremony in Mexico.
Motherhood has inevitably changed Vanessa’s priorities, with the actress becoming far more selective about her public appearances than she was during the height of her Disney fame.
But two decades after High School Musical transformed her into one of the most recognizable young stars in Hollywood, her latest appearance proves she can still command a red carpet.
