A contractor was swept into the underground system during Monday’s severe storms; rescue crews recovered his body Tuesday evening.
A contractor was found dead Tuesday evening, more than 24 hours after he and another worker were swept into a storm sewer during severe storms in Downers Grove, officials said.
The two workers, both employed by Vortex Lining Systems, were working Monday on a storm sewer pipe rehabilitation project beneath downtown Downers Grove when rapidly rising water carried them into the underground system.
The Village of Downers Grove had hired Vortex Lining Systems for the rehabilitation project. The workers were in the 800 block of Curtiss Street when the storm hit.
