This salmon kabobs recipe is easy fancy enough for house guests. My favorite way to serve it is with a few lime or lemon slices and side of Jasmine rice for a complete meal. Whole wheat couscous makes for an even healthier dinner. This blog post takes you behind the scenes of a culinary masterpiece, providing you with step-by-step instructions and insider tips so you can pull off this culinary delight.

Curry King Salmon Kabobs Ingredients:

Makes 4 Servings

SALMON MARINADE:

  • 1 Tbsp Thai curry powder
  • 2 Tbsp grapeseed oil (you may substitute olive oil)
  • 3 Tablespoons water
  • 1 t smoked paprika
  • one teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 t garlic, minced
  • Juice of one lime (you could use lemon juice but lime is particularly tasty with curry)

KABOBS:

  • 1.5 lb boneless, skinless wild-caught salmon, cut each of salmon fillets into salmon cubes
  • 1 fresh zucchini, cut into thick slices
  • one red onion, cut into chunks
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, cut into chunks
  • 2 cups whole wheat couscous, cooked

You will need some bamboo, metal, or wooden skewers. Follow soaking instruction on the package for the skewers. Wood or bamboo skewers usually need at least 10 minutes submerged in water to help make sure they don’t catch flame or cook themselves. The kabobs with salmon pieces can be cooked over the outdoor grill grate or in the oven on broil. Keep an eye on them the whole time they are cooking.

Cooking King Salmon: Expert Tips and Tricks For Best Results

Whether you’re planning a dinner party or preparing a weeknight meal for your family, this guide is your ticket to culinary success. Say goodbye to intimidation and hello to confidence as you embark on your journey to perfecting the art of cooking king salmon. The first step in creating a culinary masterpiece with king salmon is choosing the perfect piece of fish. While it may seem like a simple task, there are a few key factors to consider that can make all the difference in your final dish.

Pick Fresh Salmon Fillet

King salmon is a type of salmon and it is also known as chinook salmon. It is a large wild North Pacific salmon prized for its firm texture, high oil content, and amazing flavor. First and foremost, freshness is paramount when it comes to selecting king salmon. Look for fish that has bright, clear eyes, shiny skin, and a firm texture. Avoid any fish that has a fishy odor or looks dull in color, as these are signs of less-than-fresh salmon.

When it comes to sourcing your king salmon, look for wild-caught options. Wild-caught salmon tends to be more flavorful and have a richer texture compared to its farm-raised counterparts. Plus, choosing sustainably caught salmon can help support responsible fishing practices and the health of our oceans. Wild salmon are loaded with healthy Omega-3 fatty acids and packed with selenium, a nutritional essential. Try to get a nice thick fillet so that you will have nice big chunks of cooked salmon.

Prep Fish Fillets

Prep your king salmon by giving it a thorough rinse under cold water. This simple step helps remove any impurities and potential bacteria that may be lingering on the surface of the fish. Pat it dry with paper towels.

Season the king salmon as directed below and let it rest for about 15 minutes before you proceed to the cooking phase. This is key for allowing the flavors to penetrate the fish and ensures a more even distribution of seasoning.

Cooking Salmon Kebobs

Grilling imparts a smoky and charred flavor that pairs beautifully with the natural richness of the fish. To achieve optimal results, preheat your grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grates to prevent sticking. Place the seasoned king salmon directly on the grill and cook for about 4-6 minutes per side or until the flesh flakes easily with a fork. The quick and intense heat of the grill will create a tantalizing crust on the outside while keeping the inside moist and tender.

Another versatile cooking method for king salmon is baking. Baking salmon kabobs in oven allows for precise temperature control and even cooking, making it an excellent choice for beginners or those who prefer a no-fuss approach. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). If you’re using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes beforehand to prevent burning. (Metal skewers don’t require soaking.) Place the seasoned veggie & king salmon skewers on a lined baking sheet. You can place a rack on top of the sheet if you want even cooking on all sides, or turn them halfway through baking. Bake for approximately 12-15 minutes or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily. The marinade will create a delicious caramelized crust.

How To Make Salmon Kabobs:

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together your quick marinade ingredients.
  2. Place salmon filet 1-inch cubes, zucchini, pieces of red onion, and bell peppers in a baking dish. Pour in marinade and refrigerate for 15 minutes.
  3. Preheat grill or broiler at medium-high heat. Skewer salmon and vegetables and make sure to save the remaining marinade.
  4. Place salmon kabobs on a hot grill for 5-7 minutes of cook time, rotating once, until salmon is completely cooked through. If baking, place kabobs on a broiler pan lined with aluminum foil and cook for 12 minutes, turning once.
  5. While salmon kababs are cooking, boil the remaining marinade. Remove your kabobs when cooked and drizzle remaining marinade over them.

Sprinkle with sea salt and black pepper to taste. Serve and enjoy this great dish!

When it comes to serving king salmon, simplicity is often the best approach. Allow the natural flavors of the fish to shine by keeping your accompaniments light and complementary. Jasmine rice, wild rice, quinoa, or creamy mashed potatoes work perfectly as a nice starch base. A classic Chardonnay or a crisp Sauvignon Blanc can be excellent wine choices.

Pasture-raised chicken can be substituted for salmon. If using chicken, marinate and cook the chicken and vegetables separately.
