Jinyoung Yun Named MVC Golfer of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Jinyoung Yun has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, the third time this season and sixth time in her career, she has earned the award, after finishing second at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational.

Yun carded scores of 71, 69, and 72 for her tournament score of 212. The 212 is tied for the eighth-best tournament score in program history, and of the top-10 scores, Yun owns half of them. Her round of 69 is tied for the 11th-lowest tournament score in school history.

This season Yun has a scoring average of 71.5, over a stroke lower than the current season school record – set last season by Yun at 72.6. Her 13 rounds at or under par is the second-lowest single-season total in school history, also behind her own mark from last season (14).

In just two seasons, her 27 career rounds at or under par is tied for the school record, tied with former teammate Ali Schrock, while her career scoring average of 72.1 is over three strokes better than the school record, held by another former teammate Avalon Woodward (75.8).

With her sixth career Golfer of the Week honor, she has the 17th-most career Golfer of the Week honors in MVC history.

The Redbirds have six top-three finishes in seven events this season. The squad has individuals with 54 rounds that are at or under par, which is nearly 20 more than the previous single-season school record, and the team’s scoring average of 289.1 is on pace to shatter that previous school record (297.4) as well.

ISU returns to action on Friday, March 14, when the team travels to Sedona, Arizona, to compete in the Red Rocks Invitational hosted by Northern Arizona University.
