If you’ve lived in New York long enough, you probably have a Macy’s fireworks memory: a rooftop, a waterfront blanket, a sleepy ride home with the kids. My most memorable was watching the show just three days before going into labor with my first child. I was nine months pregnant, swollen in the summer heat, feeling like I might burst right alongside the sky, and to this day, the smell of fireworks brings me right back to the anticipation of that night.
This July 4th, Macy’s is celebrating a major milestone. The beloved fireworks tradition turns 50, and because the anniversary coincides with America’s 250th birthday year, organizers are planning the largest show in the event’s history.
The Biggest Macy’s Fireworks Show Ever
This year’s display will feature more than 85,000 shells in 30 colors, lighting up the New York skyline in a way the city has never seen before.
For the first time ever, fireworks will launch simultaneously from three separate locations: the Brooklyn Bridge, the Lower East River near the Seaport District, and the Lower Hudson River in partnership with Jersey City.
The expanded footprint means more neighborhoods across New York City and New Jersey will have a chance to enjoy the show without fighting for a tiny sliver of waterfront space.
A First-of-Its-Kind Brooklyn Bridge Laser Show
The Brooklyn Bridge won’t just be a backdrop for the fireworks this year. Macy’s is also adding a new laser show that will shine directly from the bridge, giving spectators an extra light display to enjoy alongside the fireworks. It’s one of the biggest new additions planned for this year’s celebration.
Star-Studded Performances
The NBC special will be hosted by Terry Crews and feature performances from:
- Post Malone
- Blake Shelton
- Noah Kahan
- Bebe Rexha
- Shaboozey
- Salt-N-Pepa
- Alexia Jayy
Additional appearances may still be announced as the event approaches.
How to Watch From Home
Families who prefer to skip the crowds can watch the celebration live on NBC and Peacock beginning at 8 pm ET on July 4. A Spanish-language simulcast will also air on Telemundo.
Watching from home can be a great option for families with younger children, kids who are sensitive to loud noises, or anyone who simply wants a front-row view without navigating packed streets afterward.
Enter the Golden Confetti Sweepstakes
Macy’s is also celebrating the anniversary with its Golden Confetti Sweepstakes, running through October 31.
The promotion will award 100 prizes, including special experiences, event tickets, and a grand prize $100,000 Macy’s shopping spree.
