As a proud Canadian pet parent to a high-energy crew of two rescue dogs and three rescue cats, I know firsthand the joy (and sometimes the chaos!) of sharing your heart and home with these furry family members.
From those first days post-adoption, helping them adjust to their “new normal” to the endless quest for the best products to give them an incredible quality of life…
Every pet parent wants to give their pets the very best of everything!
That’s why today, I’m sharing something near and dear to my heart (and my pets’ bellies): a roundup of my favourite Canadian pet treat options.
In a world with so many options and so much happening politically, choosing treats that are not only delicious but made right here at home is a win-win for our pets and our local economy.
So, here are some of the fantastic Canadian brands that our expert treat testers can’t get enough of:
Crumps’ Naturals
Formulated and produced in Canada since 2006, this family-owned and female led business is a great option for those looking for a trustworthy Canadian treat brand for their pets.
The treats are crafted in a facility in Mississauga, Ontario. They have also opened a second facility in North Carolina to serve the US market.
They offer a wide variety of dog treats to choose from, including:
- Single Ingredient Treats
- Sweet Potato Treats
- Training Treats
- Jerky with Function
- Dental Cre
- Meal Toppers
- Gutsy Prebiotic Bites
Plus, there are both chicken and beef freeze-dried treats for the cats.
Of course, with so many options, it can be hard to choose one. But if you want a little insider tip, our expert treat testers love the Semi Moist Duck Mini Trainers.
Northern Dog Biscuit Bakery
One of the first Canadian treat brands Lucifer was introduced to after moving to Canada, Northern Biscuit Bakery has been a staple around our home.
The brand is well known for their biscuit-style treats, including Premium Protein, Plant Based Biscuits, MiniMix, and Functionals.
However, they have also launched Northern Softies, a softer baked biscuit.
We love purchasing the MiniMix treats because they are the perfect size for training treats. You can reward your pet at only 3 calories per treat without worrying about overfeeding.
The Surf & Turf MiniMix (pictured below) includes Lamb Berry and Smoked Fish biscuits.
A proud Canadian family-owned and operated business, they have been making their tasty, healthy dog treats since they were founded in 1992.
Jay’s Tasty Adventures
Another great option that caters to both dogs and cats, Jay’s Tasty Adventures is a treat brand we have recently been introduced to.
They have a wide variety of different fun flavours, including:
- Original Soft Bacon Jerky
- Crunchy Crisps
- Premium Snack Mix
- Grass-Fed Beef Shorties
- Jay’s Meat Bars
- Fermented Cat Grass Kitty Bites
The company is based in Calgary, Alberta, and is strongly committed to small-batch, “minimally processed” pet treats.
Like the other treats on this list, we haven’t brought home a bag of treats that our crew didn’t enjoy. However, their favourite to date has been the Cheesy Beef Snack Mix.
Benny Bully’s
When we adopted Willow last June, one of the first pieces of information we were given from her foster mom was that she would do just about anything for her Benny Bully’s treats.
(Shout-Out to Team Triton Rescue)
She wasn’t kidding…
This family-owned and operated brand was founded in Canada in 1990 and is headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario.
They do have operations in Canada and the US, but for those dedicated to purchasing only Canadian-made products, their packages are clearly labelled as to which facility they are made at.
The Benny Bully’s website currently lists 58 products, including dog and cat treats.
A few of our go-to favourites in our house include:
- Bison Liver Chops Dog Treats
- Beef Liver Plus Blueberry Dog Treats
- Beef Liver Plus Kelp Dog Treats (pictured below)
- Beef Liver Plus Sweet Potato Dog Treats
- Salmon Plus Rosemary Extract Cat Treats
- Beef Heart Chops Cat Treats
While Willow enjoys a wide variety of treats in her forever home here, we always keep some of our favourites on hand!

Shades of Gray Indigenous Pet Treats
A family-owned business in Campbellford, Ontario, Shades of Gray Indigenous Pet Treats is a highly recommended solution for pets with allergies.
Why? They have a wide variety of unique traditional single-ingredient protein options for both dogs and cats, including:
- Beaver
- Bison
- Elk
- Rabbit
- Venison
We haven’t had the opportunity to try the dog teats with our pups (yet), but the brand was a big hit among the pickiest member of our crew – our diva kitty, Pippen.
She was quick to give the Indigenous Rabbit Cat Treats the coveted Pippen stamp of approval.
We’re looking forward to exploring this brand more in the near future!
PureBites
A popular pet treat you may not realize is Canadian, PureBites treats are seen in many pet stores across the country.
The company is Canadian-owned, with the head office and packaging kitchen both located in Quebec. However, they source ingredients and manufacture in other countries, including the USA and Thailand.
PureBites offers a variety of treat styles, including freeze-dried treats, air-dried treats, functional treats, wet treats, and food toppers.
We were first drawn to the brand when navigating Daviana’s food allergies, relying heavily on their single-ingredient options for an allergy-friendly snack.
We have tried several of their treats, but the biggest hits in our house include:
- Minnow Freeze Dried Cat Treats
- Ocean Medley Freeze Dried Cat Treats (pictured below)
- Cheese Freeze Dried Dog Treats
- Smelt Freeze Dried Dog Treats
- Beef & Cheese Freeze Dried Dog Treats
However, if we’ve learned anything from our crew, you can’t go wrong regardless of which option you choose.

Oh My Dogness
Handmade in small batches in Toronto, Oh My Dogness Treats is a great solution for those looking for a reliable, all-natural, premium treat.
They offer a lot of different protein sources, including (but not limited to):
- Rabbit feet
- Duck feet
- Tripe cuts
- Frog legs
- Beef lung
- Sliced pig ear
The brand was launched in 2021, and since that time, it has continued to deliver high-quality snacks for even the pickiest pups.
Their treats are also an excellent option for people looking to add a fun protein boost to their regular meals.
We haven’t tried too many of their treats yet with our crew, but they went WILD over the Lamb Tripe!
Tilted Barn Pet Co.
Another newer addition to the treat rotation in our house, we were introduced to Tilted Barn Pet Co. at our favourite go-to pet store – our local Global Pet Foods.
This Canadian, women-owned business comes to us from the Canadian prairies.
They make small batch treats with single-source proteins in two different sizes – their original meat sticks and smaller Miniwags.
Their treats are available in the following formulations:
- Beef
- Canadian Bacon (pictured below)
- Lamb
- Bison
- Beef & Saskatoon Berry
Our pups love all their treats (and yes, they have tried all options to date), but their favourite is the Canadian Bacon.
Unlike the other treats on this list, these do have to be refrigerated. So, if you’re travelling, plan accordingly.

Caledon Farms
Canadian family-owned and run since 2006, Caledon Farms was named for the town the family called home – Caledon, Ontario.
Today, the treats are manufactured in their Mississauga, Ontario facility.
They offer many different styles and ingredients in their treats to suit any taste, including:
- Single ingredient treats
- Soft & Chewy treats
- Freeze dried treats
- Plant-based treats
- Dental care
- Biscuits & cookies
- Food toppers
While they do offer treats for both dogs and cats, we have only tried the dog treats to date. But based on that, we’d still happily recommend cat parents give their cat treats a try!
Lucifer and Willow have tried several of their treats, but their favourites are the Chewy Beef Sticks and the Plaque Busters Bacon Dental Sticks.
They also offer cute Protein Cookies, a fun snack to celebrate birthdays and other events.
FirstMate Pet Foods
FirstMate is a brand that we initially associated with dog and cat kibble. But they also offer some tasty treats for your dog and/or cat.
This Canadian brand has proudly made goods for our furry friends since 1989!
Our love for the brand started when we discovered their Mini Trainers treats – small biscuit-style treats perfect for popping in your pocket or waist pack to bring on the trails.
The Mini Trainers are available in many flavours, including:
- Free Range Grass Fed Lamb Meal & Blueberries
- New Zealand Beef Meal & Blueberries
- Wild Pacific Caught Fish Meal & Blueberries (pictured in the featured image)
- Cage Free Duck Meal & Blueberries
- Cage Free Chicken Meal & Blueberries
Additionally, we regularly pick up their Savory Lamb Treats for Cats (pictured in the featured image), Tiny Fish Treats for Cats, and Indulgent Duck Treats for Cats as fun snacks for the kitty trio.
These are a great budget-friendly, small batch crafted treat, letting you spoil your pets without breaking the bank.
