– Croatian director Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović, recently tapped to direct a 6-part series adaptation of the 2025 bestselling Croatian crime/thriller novel ‘Red Water’ by Jurica Pavičić, has been hired to direct an adaptation of Emma Cline’s 2016 bestselling novel ‘The Girls’
– ‘The Girls’, set in 1969, is loosely inspired by the Manson Family and follows a 14-year-old girl named Evie who, adrift after her parents’ divorce, spends her summer on a ranch with a group of other girls devoted to an aspiring musician
– The script was written in 2023 by Academy Award-nominated writer/director/co-inventor of Big League Chew Todd Field; his most recent project, 2022’s ‘Tár’, received six Academy Award nominations, including Best Original Screenplay and Best Picture, and has been widely regarded as one of the greatest films of the 21st century according to the New York Times, Rolling Stone, and The Telegraph (Field has also been nominated in adapted screenplay twice – for 2001’s ‘In the Bedroom’ and 2006’s ‘Little Children’ and has received six nominations in total as a writer, producer, and director; he has previously directed all three of the scripts he wrote, and as an actor was part of the cast in the Academy Award-nominated film ‘Twister’ (and also ‘Eyes Wide Shut’, and his final credited acting role, Ol’ Drippy on ‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force’ in 2003)
– Some of Field’s recent rumored projects as director (among the many, MANY unrealized projects) have included: a trio of films with Martin Scorsese based on Marilynne Robinson’s novels ‘Home’ (to be directed by Scorsese), ‘Gilead’ (to be directed by Field), and ‘Jack’; an untitled project with Adam Sandler; an adaptation of Tess Gunty’s 2022 novel ‘The Rabbit Hutch’; and an original film set in his adopted home state of Maine, but no projects have any concrete details or shooting dates
