If you’re a fan of classic Chevrolet Camaros that have been expertly maintained or restored, then this 1973 Camaro RS probably won’t be for you. However, if you’re the type of person who likes to see classic American sports cars modified to within an inch of their life, it could be right up your alley.

This insane Camaro was built by D&Z Customs in Wisconsin for the SEMA Show back in 2013, competing in the OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational. It has since been featured in multiple magazines, including LS Power, and is about as extreme as a second-generation Camaro can be. Rolling up in a limited-edition Lamborghini at your local Cars & Coffee will garner plenty of attention, but we suspect this Chevy would drop jaws.

Powering the car is a 441-cubic-inch Wegner Automotive V8 producing 680 hp and 570 lb-ft (773 Nm) of torque. Mated to this behemoth of an engine is a Tremec T-56 manual transmission driving the rear wheels through a twin-disc clutch and a 3.5-inch steel driveshaft.

Although this Camaro is mostly about straight-line performance, it sports all-new suspension components so it can steer, too. These include a new Heidt cantilever front suspension with Ridetech triple-adjustable coilovers at the front and rear, tubular lower A-arms, and Heidt Pro-G two-inch drop spindles. It also rocks a set of massive six-piston front and four-piston rear brakes from Wilwood and DynaPro while sitting on a set of Forgeline DE3C wheels.
D&Z Customs also went to town on the car’s exterior, designing a custom body kit that includes a wild front splitter, blacked-out grilles, and a towering lip spoiler at the rear, fitting of a modern-day NASCAR. The Camaro has also been finished in PPG Citrus Green metallic.
As for the cabin, well, it too has been overhauled with new Sparco Evo II seats, a Sparco suede steering wheel, Ridetech harnesses, and a roll cage.
Often, project cars built for SEMA are taken apart, stripped, or disappear from public view. This Camaro has survived and is headed to auction thanks to Mecum next month. If you want a Camaro that makes a strong impression, it might be right for you.
