Sam’s Italian Cuisine Sam’s is a red-sauce joint that feels perfectly old again

Sam’s, a red-sauce Italian spot in Cobble Hill, opened in 1930, closed in 2025, and reopened in 2026 by a neighbor and fan who previously worked at Long Island Bar. Much to the delight of the regulars, she’s tried to change as little about Sam’s as possible. The sign on the window still says “for 94 years,” the red wine is still poured to the brim, and the menu, though slightly pared down, still plays the hits. There’s the doughy brick-oven pizza, the chicken parm with a 1:1 cheese-to-bird ratio, and baked clams with the finest, sandiest-tasting breadcrumbs. (Panko could never.) All of it is good, but never better than the feeling of squeezing into a red booth with your nearest and dearest, ordering several martinis, and planning your next birthday or possibly your wedding here. By the time the ice cream sundae comes out for dessert, you’ll have the event sorted.
