Grabbing a bite with Joey Wright

Each week, we chop it up with the folks responsible for dishing up food around the area. What restaurant should we try next? Let Joey Wright know at jwright@news-gazette.com.

Markia and Bubba Wollmer have been involved in the food-service industry for a long time.

And their latest project — We Got Fries in Rantoul — has been a hit since opening its doors on March 6.

“Basically, the concept is loaded fries,” Markia Wollmer said. “My favorite. I love fries, and I love chicken, who doesn’t? We have so many different varieties of toppings. You can build your own … when you come in, it’s very homey. When people come in, we treat them like family.”

Markia — who has been cooking since she was 7 years old — says the restaurant has received plenty of positive feedback since serving its first customers a little more than a month ago.

“We’ve been getting amazing feedback,” Markia Wollmer said. “Everyone loves the food. They can taste the homemade love and care we take into making our food. We love food, so we want to make everyone happy.”

We Got Fries is hoping to expand with a food truck in the near future, along with some new menu additions they’re hoping to surprise the community with.

Markia credits a strong staff with helping make the restaurant an early success.

“They’re amazing,” Markia Wollmer said. “We have hard workers. It’s a lot of family in here, like my brother and my sister. We all come together. We also have a few other people — my front staff, my front counter, they’re bringing the smiles.”
