Grabbing a bite with Joey Wright

Each week, we chop it up with the folks responsible for dishing up food around the area. What restaurant should we try next? Let Joey Wright know at jwright@news-gazette.com.

The LeRoy softball team is one win away from its second state finals appearance in three years.

Among the local businesses supporting the Panthers is Pizzeria Roma, which has been proud to help out the Panthers in their athletic endeavors over the years.

“Community is everything,” owner Kristina Finefield said. “We would not be successful without our community, and without the success that we have here, we would not be able to give back to our community.

“The football team, they come in here after the home games to celebrate their wins, which have been a lot here in the last few years, which has been a great thing.”

Pizzeria Roma — originally Roma Ralph’s — was opened by Monical’s Pizza founder Ralph Monical in 1997. Finefield has been happy to carry on his legacy since taking the reins of the restaurant in 2012.

“We have that recipe,” Finefield said. “That has not changed, whereas some other places might have changed theirs.”

The restaurant takes pride in offering something to everyone.

“We have the cracker-thin crust that people love, anybody that was raised in central Illinois is quite familiar with it,” Finefield said. “We also have a pan crust and couple of gluten-free crust. We do have a really good gluten-free clientele, so we really try to be able to give them a good product.”
