The Benedictine University women’s soccer team earned a 3-0 conference win over Lakeland University Saturday afternoon, scoring all three of its goals in the first half. The Eagles controlled the match from start to finish, improving to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in NACC play.
Benedictine got on the scoreboard in the ninth minute when Klara Cicha found the back of the net off an assist from Emma Lukin. The Eagles added another goal in the 32nd minute to extend their lead to 2-0 before Cicha struck again in the 42nd minute. Lily Martinez provided the assist on Cicha’s second goal of the afternoon, sending Benedictine into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
“This win sets the tone for conference play after dropping one to CUW. This is exactly what we needed to get back on track,” said junior Alaina Hernandez.
The Eagles continued to control play throughout the second half, keeping Lakeland off the scoreboard to secure their second shutout of the season. Benedictine finished the match with a 16-5 advantage in shots and put nine attempts on goal compared with just three for Lakeland.
“We need to build off this win by continuing to work hard and getting closer to our goal of making the conference tournament,” said Hernandez.
The Eagles will return home Saturday, September 26, when they host Wisconsin Lutheran College at 11:30am.
