Bread & Spread

Bread & Spread

Bread & Spread in Williamsburg looks like a Five Guys (without the free peanuts), but instead of burgers, they make sandwiches, including a good, and pretty affordable roast beef dip. Like all the sandwiches here, it comes with chips and pepperoncini for a more-than-complete lunch. Behind the counter, a brick oven is responsible for the melted cheese and smoky flavor on all of their hot sandwiches, including a porchetta melt that’s pleasantly rosemary-forward. They have a few seats, but this spot is best used for takeout.

Food Rundown

B&S Roast Beef Dip

For $19, this is a very good sandwich, even if the roast beef could be a bit more rare. But there’s a big cup of jus and just enough horseradish.

Porchetta Melt

Simon & Garfunkel probably weren’t thinking of this porchetta melt when they recorded Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme, but from now on we’re going to pretend that they were. The prominent combination of herbs brings the juicy pork to life, helped along with some pickled onions to balance the american cheese.

Chicken Caprese

For a lighter lunch, go with this sandwich on ciabatta. Especially if you’re a fan of balsamic glaze.
