The Chicago State athletic department announced today that Grace Maxey has been named an assistant tennis coach for the Cougars, bringing with her experience as both a player and a coach.
A 2023 graduate of McPherson College with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Marketing, she excelled as a varsity tennis player and served as team captain from 2022 to 2024. She was also an active member of the Student-Athlete Leadership Team (SALT), demonstrating her commitment to teamwork and leadership.
Maxey’s coaching experience includes roles as assistant tennis coach at McPherson College where she helped guide nationally-ranked teams and mentored student-athletes. She also served as a tennis camp counselor at Carmel Valley Tennis Camp where she led group lessons and supervised match play. Maxey began her coaching career at Glendoveer Golf & Tennis, delivering engaging programs for players of all abilities.
In addition to her coaching, Grace has contributed to her community through volunteer work with McPherson College’s Re-Use It Center and St. Henry’s Catholic Church.

Chicago State University sponsors 16 Division I intercollegiate athletic teams and competes in the Northeast Conference with the exception of men’s and women’s tennis who will compete in the Horizon League during the 2024-25 season.
