A Sunday morning crash at the intersection of University and Coler avenues in Urbana, just outside Carle Foundation Hospital, claimed the lives of two women and left two others injured. The man believed to be responsible for the accident was arrested Wednesday morning in Milford, Texas.

Update:

URBANA — Urbana police said Thursday that the man arrested for a crash that killed two women early Sunday morning used an alias and possessed falsified Mexican paperwork.

His actual identity, police said, is Julio Cucul Bol, a 29-year-old citizen of Guatemala. He originally was identified as Juan JaHaziel Saenz-Suarez, 27, of Mexico.

“Investigators learned the identity of the suspect through Julio’s admission,” Urbana police said.

As a result, a new warrant and amended charges were filed, according to Champaign County State’s Attorney Julia Rietz:

— Two counts of leaving the scene of a personal injury crash resulting in death.

— Aggravated driving under the influence resulting in death.

— Two counts on reckless homicide.

Bol remains jailed in Mansfield, Texas, according to police there.

Original story:

The suspect taken into custody in connection with a Sunday crash that killed two women is a Mexican citizen who had been previously deported, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

United States Marshals in Dallas arrested 27-year-old Juan Jahaziel Saenz-Suarez around 9:26 a.m. Wednesday in Milford, Texas. He was living in Urbana and had been identified through the Urbana Police Department’s investigation as the owner and driver of the red Mitsubishi Outlander that rear-ended a Honda Civic near Carle Foundation Hospital.

The crash led to the deaths of two passengers in the Civic, 21-year-old Chloe Polzin of Deerfield and Katherine J. Abraham of Glenview. Two other passengers were injured.

The Civic had been slowing or stopped at the traffic signal on University Avenue at Coler Avenue when the Mitsubishi hit it, Urbana police said.

University of Illinois Police records indicate that the search for the suspect included utilizing a drone.

A Champaign County arrest warrant charges Saenz-Suarez with reckless homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal injury crash.

U.S. Marshals located the suspect in Milford, about an hour south of Dallas, as he was riding an El Expreso bus headed for Matamoros, Mexico.

He was jailed in Mansfield, Texas, just after 11 a.m. Wednesday, according to records, while awaiting extradition to Illinois. A court date has not been set, Champaign County State’s Attorney Julia Rietz said.

“Our role at this point is to prosecute this individual to the full extent of the law,” Rietz said. “And we’re going to.”

As of mid-afternoon Thursday, Saenz-Suarez remained jailed in Mansfield, Texas, according to police there.
